[#1] Share with us a snippet of your story.
Hi Y'all! I'm Angela, and I live in the great state of Texas. I am super honored (and still a bit shocked) to be able to share in this beautiful space of inspiring women.
I grew up in your average and loving home, always dreaming of being a mom to a small litter of children. Therefore, it only makes sense that I feel like my personal story really and truly begins with the birth of my son, Kingston. But let me back it up. I married a wonderful man in 2007 and our own adventure began. We were both learning to live outside of our comfort zones through our frequent relocations and life was good. When our son was born in 2009, I just felt something click within me. My life just had so much more purpose. It's so very cliché, I'm aware; but I truly feel that I was meant to be a mother. And now, I'm a mother who captures images of moments in time for myself and others through photography. Though sadly, my dreams of having a 'litter" were just not meant to be-I have secondary infertility. I struggle somewhere between being ok with this, and longing (aching really) for my son to have a sibling as both my husband and I do. The last miscarriage at the beginning of 2014 really rocked me. But in turn it also validated my wanting to live purposefully for my son, my husband, and myself. If I can only raise one child, then I will do it gratefully while giving it my all. Life is short, my friends; and it's the only one we've got. So my plan is to live it loud and full. Much love!
[#2] What is your favorite part of the day with your little one?
My favorite time of day with my son is probably early evening. I work during the week, and right around dinner time is a time of great connection with our family. We play silly games at the dinner table, speak deep thoughts during bath time, and especially during the summer- after bath jammie walks. More about this to come.
[#3] Name three Instagram MOMS who inspire you.
This is incredibly difficult! I fill my feed with not only artistic inspiration, but with moms who inspire me in a multitude of ways. So here goes:
@etst: Kelle Hampton is a just bright shiny light in this world. If you don’t follow/read her blog, you should.
@theruralroost: Maggie Jones is a fierce mama to 3, and one of those recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. She is strong, smart and extremely hilarious.
@mamacase: Kacie Case is an entrepreneurial mama (check out her etsy shop, mamacaseprints!) also with a son diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. She is one of the sweetest gals, truly a gem.
Ok, I can’t not mention these other gals that you all need to know - @dreambiglittleones, @ozarkmamadeer, @thegraygang, @wynneelder, @shewillshine, @annapolisandco, @finnleesworld, @lilydenver & @summerdorsey. And all of my best girl friends are inspirational mamas to me. Yeah, so I’m kind of a rule breaker. ;-)
[#4] What challenges have you faced in balancing motherhood and your passion for creativity?
I am your typical right-brained personality so honestly, I find ways to answer my call for creativity almost daily. Instagram, lifestyle photography, crafting/chalk art/coloring/lego building with Kingston- all of these fill those needs so that I don’t go crazy. I find that I get off balance more frequently in other aspects of my life- laundry mountains, my day job vs. my passion, areas of organization, etc. I will leave the dirty dishes in the sink to play in the sun every.single.time. And my closet is ALWAYS a mess. Probably not the best of qualities, but hey! What can I say?
[#5] What is a family tradition that you love sharing with your kids?
I have 2 favorites aside from the obvious of holiday traditions. The first is what we call "jammie walks." Kingston and I love to go after bath, in jammies to walk and explore around the neighborhood. We talk about what we see, he asks questions about life, and we get that last bit of exercise for the day. We started a hashtag for it! #jammiewalk
The other is Saturday morning dance parties. We wake up, trickle downstairs, and put the coffee on. (But first-COFFEE!) Once I've had at least one cup, the jams turn up, and the moves break it down.
[#6] If you could give us a peek inside your home - what image would you share and why?
I’m not crazy about the home we live in right now, but what I do love is when we are all there, enjoying each other. Especially Saturday mornings. We also spend a lot of time in the backyard- we break out all the toys, blow up pool, sprinklers and call it a party.
[#7] Share a photo you wouldn't typically post on Instagram but depicts real life happenings.
I feel like I should be able to share whatever I want in my feed-the good, the bad and the blurry. And yet, I struggle with this at times. I definitely do not have the feed with all the perfect squares! So I'll share something that i haven't posted yet.
